My Mother’s Song

My Mother’s Song

When I couldn’t get to sleep
To my room my mother would creep
And sing a song of autumn days
With falling leaves and golden rays.
The leaves of orange, yellow and brown
Would fall, she’d sing, all over town.
And in my mind I’d see the piles
Covering streets for miles and miles.
And sleep would come on coloured leaves
From poplar, oak and maple trees
