Chickadee

Chickadee

Chick-a-dee-dee-dee
Up in the tree-tree-tree
What do you see-see-see
Do you see me-me-me?

Chick-a-dee-di-di
With your black eye-eye-eye
When will you fly-fly-fly
Up to the sky-sky-sky?

Frost

Frost

Jack Frost spreads his magic
In the garden before dawn.
White and sparkling, silver threads,
Like a carpet on the lawn.

Christmas Colours

Christmas Colours

Christmas comes on golden wings
To bring so many joyous things.
Like silver icicles on the roof
And reindeer swift on blackened hoof;
Evergreens and berries red,
Dreams wrapped up in a child’s head;
Blue and yellow twinkling lights,
White capped days and sparkling nights;
Candies pink and gingerbread brown,
It’s a rainbow of colours all over town.

My Mother’s Song

My Mother’s Song

When I couldn’t get to sleep
To my room my mother would creep
And sing a song of autumn days
With falling leaves and golden rays.
The leaves of orange, yellow and brown
Would fall, she’d sing, all over town.
And in my mind I’d see the piles
Covering streets for miles and miles.
And sleep would come on coloured leaves
From poplar, oak and maple trees

The Wave

The Wave

It splashes, it crashes
It rolls and it breaks
It falls on the seashore
And leaves in its wake
The seaweed and seashells
Smooth pebbles and sand
Then slides to the ocean
And crashes again

The Fog Beyond

The Fog Beyond

I stood on the hillside
And looked through the trees.
Beyond the houses,
Beyond the gardens,
Lay the ocean and the sky.
And the fog
Waited like a thief
For night-time.

Nature

Nature

Nature fill my senses with your wonder
Lightning flash and crash with mighty thunder
Illuminate my day and night-time sky
With sun and moon and twinkling stars on high
Let me see the beauty in the trees
When autumn rattles limbs and turns the leaves
And when the winter winds blow fierce and bold
Teach me there is grace in frost and cold
In spring-time lay your blossoms on the ground
Place your tiny blessings all around
In early summer days and moonlit nights
Show me all the grandeur of your sights
Fill my eyes and ears and life with wonder
Explode with joy and rock my world asunder
